The mission of the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) is to give permanent protection to the beauty, character and diversity of the San Francisco Peninsula and Santa Cruz Mountain range. POST encourages the use of these lands for natural resource protection, wildlife habitat, low-intensity public recreation and agriculture for people here now and for future generations.

Department of Parks and Open Space!

Under the purview of the City and County of San Francisco, our department administers and maintains more than 200 parks, playgrounds, and open spaces throughout the city, including two outside the city limits - Sharp Park in Pacifica and Camp Mather in the High Sierras. The system also includes 15 large, full-complex recreation centers, nine swimming pools, five golf courses and hundreds of tennis courts, ball diamonds, athletic fields and basketball courts. Also included in the Department's responsibilities are the Marina Yacht Harbor, Candlestick Park, the San Francisco Zoo, and the Lake Merced Complex, which is operated for recreational purposes under the San Francisco Water Department.

California's oldest State Park, established in 1902. Home to the largest continuous stand of ancient coast redwoods south of San Francisco.
